Barbara Holborow's difficult childhood and formative years precipitated a life-long commitment to alleviating the hardships of children and young people traumatised by domestic violence, abuse and neglect.

She studied law and started practising as a solicitor specialising in children's cases and, later in her career, served for 12 years as a Magistrate in the Children's Court where her compassion and outspokenness were legendary. She was fiercely committed to reforming the judicial system for children and became involved in setting up free legal aid for children in NSW, a care court that deals with cases of neglect, and a special jail for first-time offenders aged between 18 and 25.

In July 2001 Barbara honoured us by accepting our invitation to become the primary Patron of William Campbell College. Her experience and wisdom has been invaluable in assisting our navigation through the process and protocols of establishing and maintaining a quality foster care agency which meets the needs of abused, neglected and homeless children.
